Summer Markets: Part 1 - In Knitting

It's officially summer in the northern hemisphere.  Time for festivals, markets, fairs, carnivals, and concerts.  I love being able to go out and see everything that people are doing, seemingly all in one place.  The colors, movement, smells, food, and general excitement in the air is a reprieve from the winter isolation that happens in so many areas.

Of course it helps to have something to stash all of your goodies in when planning to go out on such an adventure.  Not only the stuff that comes from home, but also any trinkets that you may find along the way.

To help out with this, I present a little shopping bag to tote your stuff around in.  It has a lot of stretch, but can fold down to fit where ever you need it to.  Happy knitting and exploring.

On a side note:

When I started working on this project, I knew exactly which yarn I wanted to use.  It was one that I had used before and had worked well.  Unfortunately that particular yarn was not available at any yarn shop that I went to and I could only find it online.  After going through my stash and swatching have a dozen different yarns I headed down to my local yarn store to see about new supplies.

Lo and behold, at Cardigans I found this neat little yarn, Sirdar: Cotton DK. It as a good feel and a great twist.  While I was knitting it did not pull apart or shed.  Unfortunately, out of the three skeins that I bought, two had knots in the line where two yarns were knotted together, and the third had two sections not even knotted together.  It was annoying, but nothing that a bit of splicing couldn't remedy.

Repeat rows 153 through 166 three more times.

Place remaining 23 stitches on separate waste yarn.  Leave an 8” tail and break yarn

Pick up 45 more stitches from the first waste yarn, join yarn, and knit a second arm the same as the first.
Knit two more arms out of the remaining stitches.
Fold the bag in half length-wise.  Line up the 23 stitches from two arms that face each other and connect using a Kitchener stitch.
Break yarn.
Repeat this step for the two remaining arms.
You should now have two complete straps.
Weave in ends.

Stay tuned.  Later this month is a bit of crochet work to keep your hair under control.
