After you have completed the edging, bind off the remaining 8 stitches or sew them to the beginning 8 stitches.
Break yarn.

Neckline
(This neckline uses a technique called Elizabeth’s Applied I-cord.  I believe that it’s named after Elizabeth Zimmermann.)
Pick up 80 stitches along the original cast on edge.
Cast on 2 additional stitches.
Transfer the 2 cast on stitches to the left hand needle.
k1 (the first cast on stitch), k2tog tbl (the second cast on stitch and the first picked up stitch)
(Transfer the two knit stitches back to the left hand needle, k1, k2tog tbl) repeat around collar
When there are only 2 stitches remaining, break yarn, and weave these stitches to the beginning of the collar.

Finishing
Weave in ends.
Wet block the poncho and allow it to dry.
