Chrocheted Coasters for Drinks All Around

The holidays are coming up fast.  After with all of the preparations, decorations, and seemingly endless crowds any place that sells anything, sometimes it's nice to relax with a beverage of choice.  Or better yet, enjoy said beverage with friends and family to commiserate about all of the insanity of the season.  If you don't want those drinks to leave ghosts from seasons past on the woodwork, I present patterns for some crocheted coasters to brighten up the place.

These coasters are fast little projects that are light on the pocket book and can even be made from left over yarn.  Spill your drink on one or find it at the bottom of the kid's toy box?  Not a problem, the suggested yarn is cotton and can be machine washed. They are easy on the furniture and have plenty of potential for you to add your own personal adornment.

I hope that you enjoy them as much as I have.

If you would like a pdf of this pattern and have a Ravelry account, a copy can be found here.

Feel free to change the yarn, gauge, or size to fit your needs.  Just please do not try to sell this pattern as your own.

If you have any problems that you think that I might be able to help you with, email me at GridMammalCrafts@gmail.com .

Crocheted Coasters

General Materials:
·         Size G, 4.25 mm Crochet Hook
·         Stitch Marker
·         Darning Needle
Gauge:
·         18 sts x 20 rows = 4” x 4” in Single Stitches
Notes:
·         Each coaster only takes a small amount of yarn to make.  So one skein can make many coasters.
·         All of these coasters are based around a crocheted round center and then the exterior is done depending on each particular coaster.
·         Different rounds or sections of rounds are labelled with different colors.  These colors correspond to the colors used in the charts for different sections.
Abbreviations:
                ch – chain
                sc – single crochet
                hdc – half double stitch
                dc – double crochet
                tr – treble
                dtr – double treble
                DEC 1 – decrease 1 stitch
                Rnd – Round
Key:

Coaster Center
The trick to making these centers round as opposed to a hexagon is to increase the stitch count in every round by six, but try not to do an increase directly above one from the previous row.  So the rounds go like this:
Instructions
In Color A
Ch 4, slip stitch to the beginning to make a ring.
Rnd 1: 6 sc into ring (Place marker to mark the beginning of each round.)
Rnd 2: (2 sc into each sc) x 6 (12 sc)
Rnd 3: (1 sc into the next sc, 2 sc into the next sc) x 6 (18 sc)
Rnd 4: (2 sc into the next sc, 1 sc into the next 2 sc) x 6 (24 sc)
Rnd 5: (1 sc into the next 2 sc, 2 sc into the next sc, 1 sc into the next sc) x 6 – (30 sc)
Rnd 6: (2 sc into the next sc, 1 sc into the next 4 sc) x 6 (36 sc)
Rnd 7: (1 sc into the next 3 sc, 2 sc into the next sc, 1 sc into the next 2 sc) x 6 (42 sc)
Rnd 8: (1 sc into the next 6 sc, 2 sc into the next sc) x 6 (48 sc)
