Knit theCabled Critter Sr. Cap

Now, it's very hard to have a junior without a senior.  So following is the pattern for the Cabled Critter Sr. Cap done in worsted weight yarn.

Cabled Critter Sr. Cap

Materials:
·         2 Skeins Manos Del Uruguay, Maxima, 100% Extrafine Merino, Approx. 219 yds/200 m, Color: Beehive
·         US Size 7, 4.5 mm, 16” Circular Needles
·         US Size 8, 5.0 mm, 16” Circular Needles
·         US Size 8, 5.0 mm Double Point Needles
·         6 Stitch Markers
·         Cable Needle
·         2 Bulb Shape Safety Pins
·         Waste Yarn
·         Darning Needle

Gauge:
·         20 Stitches x 27 Rows = 4” x 4” in Stockinette on US Size 8 Needles

Finished Size:
·         Should fit up to a 24" diameter head.

Notes:
·         Changes in stitch counts are marked at the end of the round in (blue italics).
·         The hat is knit in one piece from the brim up.
·         The Crown is knit in six different sections using four different charts.  Consider using stitch markers to delineate different sections.
·         If you would like to try to knit the hat with one skein of Maxima, decrease the length of the brim by one inch.

Instructions:
Brim
Using US Size 8 circular needles, Cast On 114 stitches using an Italian Cast On
Join in the round without twisting and place stitch marker to denote the beginning of the round.
Switch to the US Size 7 circular needles.
Chart 1: Rib Repeat, Repeat chart 57 times in each round
Round 1: (p1, k1) x 57
Repeat Round 1 until the piece measures 7 inches from the cast on edge. (Approx. 48 rounds total)
·         If you are trying to knit the hat with one skein of Maxima, only knit 6” from the cast on edge.

Place 16 stitches on double point needles, the next two stitches on a safety pin, the next 32 stitches on waste yarn, the next two stitches on a safety pin, and the last 16 stitches onto double point needles.
Now, the first ear will be worked over the 32 stitches on the double point needles.

Break the yarn leaving an approximately 6” tail.  Thread the yarn through the remaining four stitches on the needles and join them off in the loop.

Place the 32 stitches from the waste yarn onto the double point needles.  Join the yarn and complete the second ear the same as the first.
Use the remaining yarn and thread the yarn through the remaining four stitches on the safety pins.  Join the stitches in the round and weave in ends, sewing up any holes that remain between the portions.
