EMBLEM Runner to Crochet

This summer proved to be one for the history books.  It's definitely one that has made me want to sit down, research, outreach, and most of all think.

I find that the moment that a large group of people start reacting viscerally to something, I want to sit down and really process the situation.  When emotions run high, questionable decisions can be made, and sometimes the point will become obscured.

The past season's protests really made me want to be able to do something.  Unfortunately being out on the streets was not an option, so the first thing was to try to educate myself better.  This did not only include looking at the historic and news worthy items, but also trying to digest individual perspectives and try to understand how they fit into everything as a whole.

While I was attempting this, I was not really surprised by the initial round of protests.  There is definite evidence of systemic problems in the overall American culture.  What really surprised me was the vitriol and energy of the counter protests.  The anger and volume of groups blaming the victims for their fates.  It still confuses me.

Since I am not an individual who sits still easily, I created while I thought and watched.  What follows is the pattern for this work.  It is free here and on Ravelry and I will keep it so.

If you would like a PDF of these patterns and have a Ravelry account, a copy can be found here.

Feel free to change the yarn, gauge, or size to fit your needs.  Please do not try to sell this pattern as your own.

When Adding a Filled Block to the End of a Row

When Decreasing a Block at the End of a Row

·         No worries finish the square you’re working on and start on the next row.

When Decreasing a Block at the Beginning of a Row

·         Turn work.

·         Slip stitch through the top of the double stitch that you just completed and the next three double stitches.

·         Chain three.  This will count as the first double stitch of the first square of the next row.

·

Decreasing Multiple Blocks at the Beginning of a Row

·         Turn work.

·         Slip stitch through the top of the double stitch that you just completed and the next three double stitches.

·         Repeat the previous step for each consecutive decreased block.
